Charging Membership

Yes! You just need to become a charging member of BlueIndy. Simply go online, download the mobile app or visit an enrollment kiosk (which are at select BlueIndy stations) to sign up! You will be asked to provide a valid U.S. driver’s license, credit card and vehicle registration.  You will receive a membership badge which enables you to reserve, unlock and use the charging stations.

Corporate user

You must cancel your reservation to release the vehicle for use by another member to avoid any penalty. If you book a vehicle but don’t use it, we will charge your account $5 once the 30-minute holding period is up. 

You can check your activity by logging on to your password-protected account at www.blue-indy.com/account or via the mobile app. 

BlueIndy will work with your administrator to develop a plan of communication that is designed to provide all the information. Our goal is to ensure each customer’s experience reflects the quality of BlueIndy service; simple, convenient and easy to use. Depending on the number of members on the account, it may be as straightforward as sending the designated administrator an email asking him or her to confirm registration and activate the account. Once activated, the administrator can easily email invitations to users via the website.

With proper security clearance, administrators can do the following:

  • Update information about the company or organization
  • Manage user accounts (invite new users, suspend existing users and change user status)
  • Monitor each user’s bills and usage logs

End of the service

If you have any outstanding bills, you will need to pay them via the BlueIndy app (bills) or BlueIndy website (my account/my bills/pay outstanding bills).

Promo codes only apply to your BlueIndy subscription and can not be converted to a monetary value.

You are now able to terminate your subscription at any time with no penalties starting from December 20th, 2019. To do so, simply send us a request from the BlueIndy app (messages/new message) or website (my account/my messages/create a new message) requesting the termination of your membership.

No, your membership card will be deactivated as soon as your membership is terminated so you do not need to return it.

This difficult decision to close the business on May 21st 2020 has been taken as the service did not reach the level of activity required to be economically viable here.  

You will be able to access and use the BlueIndy cars until May 21, 2020.

• For “Yearly” members, all membership fees as of March 21st will be waived.

• For “Youth and Student” and “Charging” members, prorated refunds for your membership fees will be issued on March 21st.

However, you will still be responsible for any usage fees (rentals) and penalties still apply. Any fees incurred prior to the closure of the service will remain due after May 21, 2020 and debt collection procedures will continue for any invoices which remain outstanding.

• If you used your Groupon promo voucher to subscribe to our service, prorated refunds for your membership fees will be issued on March 21st. 

• If you still haven’t used your Groupon promo voucher to subscribe to our service, please use it to subscribe to our service on or before March 1st 2020. Once subscribed to our service, prorated refunds for your membership fees will be issued on March 21st.

However, you will still be responsible for any usage fees (rentals) and penalties still apply. Any fees incurred prior to the closure of the service will remain due after May 21, 2020 and debt collection procedures will continue for any invoices which remain outstanding.

The car

The Bluecar is a 100% electric, 4-person vehicle equipped with a 30-kWh Lithium Metal Polymer battery which provides up to 150 miles per charge.

No, the driver must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Yes, you can park anywhere it is legal to park a vehicle. Usage fees continue until the Bluecar is returned to a BlueIndy station. 

The vehicle should be returned to the BlueIndy station:

  • Park it in an assigned space with the charging pod’s light shining green or blue if you have reserved a space.
  • Close the windows, put the handbrake on and remove the key from the ignition.
  • Swipe your membership card at the charging station, it will open the cap covering the cable, then connect the plug to the vehicle and close the plug cover to start charging.
  • Lock the vehicle with your card by swiping it in front of the left side mirror.
  • Only these two actions (Pluging and locking the vehicle) will end your trip and send you a confirmation via text.

No, memberships are for named users, personal and non-interchangeable. Only the subscriber can drive the Bluecar. If you lend your badge to someone or borrow a badge from a third party, you will still be responsible for the car and you will not be insured. If you lend your BlueIndy badge to a third party, your membership will be terminated immediately and you will be banned from using the service for 6 months, except if the badge has been stolen and the theft reported to the police.

Any ticket or legal infraction that causes a fine are the responsibility of the driver when that event occurs. Those charges will be added to your monthly bill if not paid at the time of the incident.

BlueIndy relies on our users to keep the vehicles clean. When you return the Bluecar, please make sure you remove all personal items and trash. Leaving the car in an unacceptable state may incur penalties, including a $50 cleaning fee. If you find a car dirty or messy, please inform BlueIndy via the call center or the blue call button in the vehicle prior to leaving the station.

Yes, a LATCH system is installed in the back seat of the vehicle to enable securing a child seat for safe transport of young children. All other passengers should use seat belts.

The Bluecar is roomy enough to seat four (4) adults very comfortably.

The Bluecar has plenty of room for luggage and many types of packages.  However, transporting items that are too large, extend from the vehicle, or are likely to damage the Bluecar is strictly prohibited.

The ignition key is permanently attached to the right side of the steering column via a wire cord. It looks and works just like a normal car key.

The top speed of a Bluecar is 65mph.

Yes! The back seats fold down by pulling on the lever located at the top of the seat.

No, not at this time.

The charges to use the car vary, depending on which membership level you choose and how long you keep the car.

First step: Purchase one of the four membership options: daily, weekly, monthly or annual.

Second step: Pay for your minutes. The usage fee is determined by how long you use the car before returning it to any BlueIndy station. An annual member on standard rates will pay a flat fee of $4 for the first 20 minutes and then $0.20 per minute thereafter. For detailed information, please refer to the membership page.

The service

You can subscribe for a day, a week, a month or a year and access the service immediately. Sign up online or go to a subscription kiosk. Your badge allows you to access to any Bluecar 24/7 without waiting in line at a counter. Your rentals are billed based on time used.

Yes, that's one of BlueIndy’s many advantages! You can pick up a vehicle at any station and return it at the station of your choice.

You can find and book a car or a parking space from the BlueIndy application on your smartphone, from your account on our website or by phone with our 24/7 call center.

Stations throughout Indianapolis will offer the membership-based car share service as well as electric vehicle charging infrastructure for public use.

The call center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All you need is a valid U.S. driver’s license or International driver’s license and a credit card. When you become a member, BlueIndy will save that information to your membership badge making access as easy as a card swipe! 

Reservations that are not going to be used must be canceled to avoid any penalty charges. Your reservation lasts 30 minutes. If you don’t cancel within these 30 minutes, a $5 fee will be charged to your account.

Please contact BlueIndy by logging into your account, access the message center, choose from the drop down menu to notify us of the badge loss. 

There are several options for locating the nearest available parking spot. Access the mobile app or use the touch screen in your car to find the nearest station with an available spot. If you still have trouble, please contact the call center by pushing the blue button in the Bluecar for assistance. 

An easy solution is to be sure to check for availability on the mobile app prior to going to a station. If you are at a station and there are no vehicles, all BlueIndy rental kiosks are linked. Present your badge at the kiosk. It will then guide you to nearby stations that have a car available. At that time you can reserve a car for a period of 30 minutes, after which time the car must be used or reservation canceled to avoid incurring a $5 penalty fee. 

Yes you can, sign in and access your personal reservations, invoice and history of usage. You can also make changes to your profile.
